| | Micah's take on TEA parties (chapter 2): 1Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand. 2And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage. 3Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go haughtily: for this time is evil. 4In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields. 5Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the LORD. Let me paraphrase this passage to make it a bit more meaningful on this day of TEA parties: 1Woe to them that make laws to favor their greed, and dream up how to do it! When the time is convenient, they go about their ways implementing their plans. 2They like what you have and take it through the laws they’ve devised – your land and your home – and take them, leaving you no recourse; in this way, they ruin you and your children’s future. 3Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which you will have no say or control, neither will you be able to boast about it, because bad things are happening. 4In that day, those you’ve oppressed will say, “We are ruined; the law has taken my home, my land and given them to others; it’s just amazing how this was done! They’ve taxed my property to the point I can no longer keep it.” 5Therefore, you, O plunderer, will no longer be. You won’t even be able to toss a coin into the collection plate. God is not mocked! |
